Football Recap: Angleton Falls Despite Big Games from Kaleb Jammer and Wyatt Neyland

If Angleton was feeling good fresh off their 49-0 takedown of Fort Bend Kempner last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats fell 47-40 to the La Porte Bulldogs on Friday. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Wildcats, who until this matchup were averaging 13.11 points allowed.

Angleton's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Wyatt Neyland, who rushed for 108 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries, and Kaleb Jammer, who threw for 26 yards and a pair of TDs. Neyland's longest rush was for an impressive 69 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Even if they lost, Angleton's defensive line still kept up the pressure with 3.5 sacks. In that department, Caden Scott was the leader with two. Angleton got some further help from Landon Miles: he made nine total tackles (1.0 for loss) and snagged an interception.

La Porte found their leader in sophomore Sean Simon, who rushed for 260 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 9.0 yards per carry. Simon is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 105 every time he's taken the field this season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Angleton fell to 8-1. As for La Porte, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Angleton will face off against rival Crosby at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Bryce Duron and Lott Robison. Meanwhile, La Porte is set to square off against their familiar foe Pasadena at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
