Baseball Preview: Vinton County Vikings vs. Westfall Mustangs
The Vinton County Vikings will square off against the Westfall Mustangs at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
Vinton County can't be too happy about their upcoming road contest considering what happened when they opened their season away from home on Monday. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fairfield Union. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it six in a row.
Meanwhile, Westfall hadn't done well against Washington recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 14-7 margin over the Blue Lions.
AJ Pluta made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Pluta was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Caleb Henry was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Brendan Biegler, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Vinton County might still be hurting after the 15-8 defeat they got from Westfall in their previous matchup back in May of 2019. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
