Preview: Westhope/Newburg Sioux vs. Harvey Hornets
After three games on the road, Westhope/Newburg is heading back home. They will take on the Harvey Hornets at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Monday, Westhope/Newburg was able to grind out a solid victory over Drake/Anamoose, taking the game 59-52. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Westhope/Newburg has managed all season.
Kimberly Tabarez was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. She also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Ashley Tabarez was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Harvey had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They secured a 44-40 W over Mohall/Lansford/Sherwood on Friday.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Harvey to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rachel Neumiller, who scored 14 points along with two steals. Neumiller continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylee Keller, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Westhope/Newburg's win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-11. As for Harvey, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-9-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Westhope/Newburg have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.1 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Harvey, though, as they've been averaging only 28.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
