Basketball Recap: Sotomayor Skates Past Taft with Ease

Sotomayor won the last time they faced Taft and things went their way on Friday too. The Sotomayor WILDCATS simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Taft Raiders 62-31. The WILDCATS have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 games by 22 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sotomayor to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jah'Dae Bussey, who went 10 of 19 en route to 23 points along with six boards and five assists. The matchup was Bussey's third in a row with at least ten points. Jordan Pete was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.

Sotomayor smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 17 consecutive contests.

Taft lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Taylor Olson, who posted two points. Olson is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Amariya Scallion Warfield, who put up four points and five boards.

Sotomayor's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-8. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Taft, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-22 record this season.

Sotomayor will take on Warren at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Warren knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Sotomayor likes a good challenge. Taft has already played their next contest (against Harlan), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
