Baseball Recap: Hanford West Takes a Loss

Hanford West extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 10-14 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sierra Pacific Golden Bears. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Huskies of the 11-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Hanford West got a good showing from Jeremiah Varela, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Varela a new career-low in walks (one).

As for Sierra Pacific, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-7. That's two games straight that they have won by just one run.

On Sierra Pacific's side, Kaleb Koelewyn spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Harrison Grant, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

While Hanford West had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
