Softball Game Preview: North Yarmouth Academy Panthers vs. Maine Central Institute Huskies

The North Yarmouth Academy Panthers will square off against the Maine Central Institute Huskies at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Yarmouth Academy will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

North Yarmouth Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Gray-New Gloucester, who was ranked 13th at the time (North Yarmouth Academy was ranked first). The Panthers never let the Patriots get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Wednesday. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by 14 runs or more this season.

Lily Fortin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, North Yarmouth Academy got a massive performance out of Brooklyn Goodman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Sadie Morgan, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

North Yarmouth Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Maine Central Institute made easy work of Mount View on Saturday and carried off an 11-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Huskies in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won seven in a row.

North Yarmouth Academy's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Maine Central Institute, their record now sits at 2-0.

North Yarmouth Academy took their victory against Maine Central Institute in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 8-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
