Softball Recap: Capital's Losing Streak Snapped at Three Games

Capital had lost three games straight , but after bumping their record up to 12-9-1 on Saturday that streak is in the rearview. They walked away with a 10-6 win over the Sandia Matadors. The Jaguars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Matadors, too.

Ava Martinez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on four hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jadyn Padilla, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Brooklyn Cardenas was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Capital was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

As for Sandia, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 13-9. Their loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

On Sandia's side, Aleena Duran made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Duran also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lola Valentin, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Capital will have a chance to go back-to-back against Sandia: the pair will be back at it again later today.
