Recap: La Junta Tigers vs. Florence Huskies
It was a good run, but The La Junta Tigers unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Friday. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 14-13 to Florence. La Junta gained 127 more yards on the day, but it was Florence that made the best of use of them.
Despite the loss, La Junta still got an impressive performance from Rylan Schmidt, who rushed for 212 yards and two touchdowns. Schmidt is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last five games he's played.
It was another big night for Luguse Nuss, who rushed for 124 yards and a touchdown on only six carries. Nuss really tore up the turf during one magnificent 76-yard run. Gage Goodall did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 82 receiving yards.
La Junta's loss dropped their record down to 8-1. As for Florence, their win bumped their record up to 6-3.
La Junta will be playing in front of their home fans against Pagosa Springs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Pagosa Springs is ranked 77th, while La Junta is ranked 68th). As for Florence, they will face off against University at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. University is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
