Softball Game Preview: St. Albans Red Dragons vs. Spring Valley Timberwolves

The St. Albans Red Dragons will head out on the road to take on the Spring Valley Timberwolves at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Albans is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

St. Albans took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They came out on top against Ravenswood by a score of 5-1. The win continues a trend for the Red Dragons in their matchups with the Red Devils: they've now won three in a row.

Ava Bentley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Paige White, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Ali Long, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Spring Valley ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against George Washington, sneaking past 8-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Timberwolves.

Sydney Turner was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Kate Spry was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

Spring Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.

St. Albans' record now sits at 8-5. As for Spring Valley, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

St. Albans couldn't quite get it done against Spring Valley in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 8-5. Can the Red Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
