Preview: Stella High Charter Academy Eagles vs. New Designs University Park Cardinals

Stella High Charter Academy is 3-0 against New Designs University Park since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. Both teams will round out the year against one another at 1:00 p.m. at. Stella High Charter Academy, yet to win a game, are hoping to taste some of the success that has characterized New Designs University Park's (thus far) undefeated season.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 64-23, which was the final score in Stella High Charter Academy's tilt against Horace Mann UCLA Community last Friday. Stella High Charter Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-11.

Meanwhile, New Designs University Park didn't have too much trouble with Alliance Bloomfield on the road on Thursday as they won 44-26. Given New Designs University Park's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 385th, while Alliance Bloomfield is ranked 1369th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

New Designs University Park's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Nicholas Hambrick, who scored four points along with five steals, and Daviandre Davis, who scored eight points. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for him. Agustin Garibay was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine rebounds.

Stella High Charter Academy bumped their record down to 0-9 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. As for New Designs University Park, their win bumped their record up to 9-0.

Stella High Charter Academy was able to grind out a solid win over New Designs University Park in their previous matchup back in December of 2015, winning 52-40. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was New Designs University Park's Jose Cruz, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Stella High Charter Academy to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
