Baseball Game Preview: Mora Mustangs vs. Aitkin Gobblers

The Mora Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Aitkin Gobblers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Mora's win against Moose Lake/Willow River wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mustangs had just enough and edged out the Rebels 3-2. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now won five in a row.

Meanwhile, Aitkin had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past Rush City 15-7 on Tuesday. The Gobblers not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 24, 2024.

Jake McGuire made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. McGuire was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on John Pelarski, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 4-for-6. Another player making a difference was Cole Trotter, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Mora was able to grind out a solid win over Aitkin when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 4-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
