Basketball Game Preview: Fairview Knights vs. Legacy Lightning

The Fairview Knights will head out to square off against the Legacy Lightning at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fairview is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.5 points per game this season.

Fairview fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Longmont on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 41-39. The match marked the Knights' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Fairview's loss came about despite a quality game from Spencer Brown, who posted 17 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Mangine, who had nine points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Legacy beat Mead 65-54 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lightning.

Legacy's win came from a few key players Fairview will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jaedon Ward, who went 8 of 12 on his way to 18 points along with six boards and three steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Allshouse, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 12 points and seven assists.

Legacy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for Fairview, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-2.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Fairview has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 24 boards per game. However, it's not like Legacy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Fairview suffered a grim 71-47 defeat to Legacy in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Fairview avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
