Preview: Palo Verde Titans vs. Safford Bulldogs
Palo Verde is 1-6 against Safford since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Palo Verde Titans will head out on the road to face off against the Safford Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. Palo Verde has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
Palo Verde scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat San Miguel 66-11 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Palo Verde has posted yet this season.
Gaby Oliver was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists. That's the first time this season that she posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Guerrero, who scored 16 points along with four steals.
Safford suffered their biggest loss since December 16, 2023 on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Pusch Ridge Christian Academy on the road and fell 60-27. Safford has struggled against Pusch Ridge Christian Academy recently, as their game on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Palo Verde's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-15. As for Safford, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.
Palo Verde skirted past Safford 48-45 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Palo Verde since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
