Baseball Game Preview: McCutcheon Mavericks vs. Harrison Raiders

The McCutcheon Mavericks will face off against the Harrison Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. McCutcheon will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

McCutcheon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Lafayette Jefferson 7-6. Seven seems to be a good number for the Mavericks as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Jake Winger was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Winger was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two triples and one run. Those two triples gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zayne Newgent, who went 2-for-5 with one triple and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season.

Meanwhile, Harrison entered their tilt with Kokomo on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 5-2 win over the Wildkats.

Jeremy Lowrey looked comfortable as he struck out nine batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Nolan Hodnett was excellent, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew McTagertt, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

McCutcheon's record is now 16-11. As for Harrison, their record now sits at 19-7.

McCutcheon couldn't quite finish off Harrison in their previous matchup back in April and fell 2-0. Can the Mavericks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
