Baseball Recap: Hunterdon Central Victorious

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Hunterdon Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Union Catholic Vikings. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Red Devils have posted since April 8th.

Cole Jacobus looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hunterdon Central is 3-1 when Jacobus allows one or fewer earned runs, but 6-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Danny Contiliano, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run and two runs. He has become a key player for Hunterdon Central: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Nik Holot, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Hunterdon Central's victory bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Union Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-8-1.

Looking ahead, Hunterdon Central will be playing in front of their home fans against Bridgewater-Raritan at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Union Catholic, they will head out on the road to take on Westfield at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
