Softball Recap: Waggener Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Waggener came tearing into Thursday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Valley Vikings 31-24. The Wildcats have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Vikings, too.

Waggener got a massive performance out of Jamarie Young, who got on base in five of her seven plate appearances with seven stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI. Young has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Keilyn Taylor was another key player, scoring six runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all seven of her plate appearances.

Waggener always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .726. Their OBP was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .558 that Valley posted.

Waggener pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 27.3 runs over those games. As for Valley, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Waggener will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Eminence at 5:00 p.m. on April 7. As for Valley, they will face off against Cocke County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
