Basketball Recap: DJ Hicks' Big Game Can't Quite Lead South Granville over Southern School of Energy and Sustainability

After flying high against Durham School of the Arts last Tuesday, South Granville came back down to earth. The match between the South Granville Vikings and the Southern School of Energy and Sustainability Spartans didn't end well, with the South Granville Vikings falling 83-68. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while the Spartans are ranked 32nd).

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was DJ Hicks, who posted 18 points and four steals. KJ Terry was another key player, dropping a double-double with 17 points and 13 boards.

Jackson Keith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Southern School of Energy and Sustainability, dropping a double-double with 23 points and 15 rebounds. The contest was Keith's tenth in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of AJ Morman Jr., who went 6-for-15 on his way to 17 points along with eight boards and five assists.

South Granville's loss dropped their record down to 16-5. As for Southern School of Energy and Sustainability, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-2.

South Granville has already played their next game, a 69-31 win against Louisburg on the 11th. As for Southern School of Energy and Sustainability, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 72-37 victory against Vance County on the 11th.
