Puyallup and Sumner are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2021, but likely not for long. The Vikings will take on the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Puyallup is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.5 runs per game this season.
Puyallup fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Emerald Ridge on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jaguars. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Vikings couldn't push the score so high this time.

Kiera Thomas spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on 11 hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Puyallup saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Wright, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Graham-Kapowsin hit Sumner with a four-run first inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans lost 9-3 to the Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Spartans have suffered since May 25, 2024.
Emma Hixon was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Olivia Alastra also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
The defeat snapped Puyallup's winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 8-4 record. As for Sumner, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-3.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Puyallup hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. However, it's not like Sumner struggles in that department as they've averaged .364. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Puyallup couldn't quite get it done against Sumner in their previous matchup back in March as they fell 7-2. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
