Softball Recap: Avon Comes Up Short

Avon had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-12 to make it six. They fell 15-10 to the Cathedral Fighting Irish. The Orioles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Fighting Irish from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Payton Kellermeier was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Olivia Yeary, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Cathedral, the win keeps they at an undefeated 15-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average this season.

On Cathedral's side, they got a massive performance out of Anna Moore, who fired off two home runs and seven RBI while going 2-for-5. Those two home runs gave Moore a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Angie Valentine, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Avon has already played their next matchup, a 9-5 loss against Terre Haute North Vigo on the 2nd. As for Cathedral, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 17-0 win against Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter on the 3rd.
