Basketball Recap: Discovery Comes Up Short

Discovery was the 42-12 winner over Auburndale when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Discovery Spartans lost 52-27 to the Auburndale Bloodhounds on Thursday.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Auburndale to victory, but perhaps none more so than Makyla Jones, who went 9 of 19 on her way to 23 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aleecia Pollard, who went 8 for 18 on her way to 16 points.

Discovery's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Auburndale, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Discovery will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Auburndale at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2025. Auburndale has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for they, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 53-21 win against Bartow on the 20th.
