Softball Recap: Knox Central Has No Trouble Against Williamsburg

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Knox Central). They were the clear victors by a 20-2 margin over the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets on Thursday. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Yellow Jackets recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Blakely Castle made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Sydney Grubb was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Jayme Swafford was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2.

Knox Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .710. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Knox Central pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Williamsburg, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Knox Central will host Avonworth at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. As for Williamsburg, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Pineville at 6:00 p.m.
