Baseball Recap: Tonkawa's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Three

After losing to Frontier the last time they met, Tonkawa decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Buccaneers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mustangs on Thursday, sneaking past 16-14. The victory was familiar territory for the Buccaneers, who have now won three contests in a row.

Tonkawa got a massive performance out of Westyn Freeman, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with three doubles, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three doubles gave Freeman a new career-high. Brett Shepherd was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.

Tonkawa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .306 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Tonkawa's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-7. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Frontier, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-12 record.

Looking ahead, Tonkawa will head out to square off against Blackwell at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Buccaneers are facing the Maroons at the right time seeing as the Maroons are stuck on a three-game losing streak. Frontier has already played their next game (against Dover), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
