Softball Recap: Avondale Takes a Loss

Avondale had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-13 to make it six. They lost 23-3 to the Southfield Arts & Tech Warriors. The Yellowjackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Kate Smith was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Southfield Arts & Tech, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. Considering they have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Southfield Arts & Tech's side, Trinity Hester, 2028 was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Hester, 2028 a new career-high. Cienna Bell, 2028 was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Southfield Arts & Tech beat Avondale by a score of 21-6 later that day.
