Baseball Recap: La Porte Wins Going Away Against Merrillville

After only one run in their last game, La Porte made sure to put some runs up on the board against Merrillville on Tuesday. The Slicers were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Pirates. The Slicers haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Cody Ryden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.

At the plate, Gage Raymond was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of La Porte's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-11 when he doesn't). Aiden Langager also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

La Porte hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Merrillville struck out 11 times.

La Porte's record is now 8-11. As for Merrillville, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-13.

La Porte will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Pirates: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
