Basketball Preview: St. Augustine Catholic Wolves vs. Horizon Honors Eagles
St. Augustine Catholic is 0-3 against the Eagles since January of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The St. Augustine Catholic Wolves will look to defend their home court against the Horizon Honors Eagles at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
St. Augustine Catholic had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Tempe Prep 62-19 at home. St. Augustine Catholic pushed the score to 53-16 by the end of the third, a deficit the Knights had no chance of recovering from.
St. Augustine Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Megan Callahan, who scored 18 points along with six steals. Callahan is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last five games she's played. Kiersten Ball was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Horizon Honors waltzed into their contest on Monday with three straight wins but they left with four. They breezed by Sequoia Pathway Academy at home to the tune of 43-4. Given Horizon Honors' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while the Pumas are ranked 303rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Augustine Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. As for Horizon Honors, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-6.
