Softball Recap: Lake Catholic Takes a Loss

Lake Catholic extended their losing streak to seven on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 3-14 in the process. They fell 6-2 to the Magnificat Blue Streaks. The Cougars were not able to make up for their defeat to the Blue Streaks from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Lizzie Bammerlin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Lake Catholic saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jules Amato, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Another was Alexis Hollowell, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles.

As for Magnificat, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-16. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

On Magnificat's side, Ella Restifo made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Restifo a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ella Lopez was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Cami Riordan was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Magnificat beat Lake Catholic by a score of 10-3 later that day.
