Recap: West Laurens Raiders vs. Howard Huskies
The West Laurens Raiders''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. The game between West Laurens and Howard wasn't particularly close, with West Laurens falling 35-21. West Laurens lost against Howard in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 31-7 score last time.
Ty Cummings and Johnny Williams certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Cummings rushed for 137 yards, while Williams picked up 163 receiving yards. Williams' longest reception was for an incredible 83 yards.
Camareon (cam) taylor looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 102 yards and a touchdown, while also throwing for 148 yards and a touchdown on only 13 passes. Ethan Ellington was in the mix too, providing Howard with two touchdowns.
West Laurens' defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. As for Howard, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Laurens will challenge Perry at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Perry presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than West Laurens in Georgia (Perry is ranked 45th, while West Laurens is ranked 284th). As for Howard, they will head out on the road to face off against Westside at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
