Clear Creek made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Denver Academy, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Golddiggers blew past the Mustangs 19-3 on Monday. The Golddiggers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Zephyr Schuessler and Vinny Schoell made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Schuessler pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Schoell struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Schuessler has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Schuessler fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-4, while Schoell scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Those two home runs gave Schuessler a new career-high.
In other batting news, Clear Creek got a massive performance out of Wyatt Huff, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Huff has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ski Hull, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Clear Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive games.
Clear Creek now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Denver Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clear Creek will challenge Lyons at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Denver Academy, they will face off against Flatirons Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
