Softball Recap: Padua Franciscan Takes a Loss

Padua Franciscan dropped their record down to 8-9 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Elyria Catholic Panthers, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-1 back in April.

As for Elyria Catholic, the win keeps they at an undefeated 20-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 11.2 runs this season.

For Elyria Catholic's part, Kailey Tomasch was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Tomasch has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jessica Conner and Hannah Brooks did most of the damage at the plate: Conner went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Brooks went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Conner has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Nadia Pagan, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Padua Franciscan has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 defeat against Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy on the 8th. As for Elyria Catholic, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 6-1 win against Madison on the 12th.
