Basketball Recap: Wakeland Finds Playoff Glory Versus Ellison

Wakeland had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top against the Ellison Eagles by a score of 50-42 on Tuesday. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Eagles are ranked 165th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wakeland found their leader in sophomore Charlotte Cavin, who almost dropped a double-double with 25 points and nine boards. Cavin is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 11 games she's played. Kaylei Thornton was another key player, going 5-for-12 en route to 13 points and six rebounds.

Wakeland is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 31-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.9 points over those games. Ellison's loss dropped their record down to 27-11.

Coming up, Wakeland will challenge Memorial at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Memorial comes in on 15 and Wakeland on six. Ellison does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
