Basketball Game Preview: Braddock Bulldogs vs. Varela Vipers

Braddock has gone 8-2 against Varela recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Braddock Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Varela Vipers at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Braddock's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups.

Last Monday, Braddock took a blow against Olympic Heights, falling 91-62. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (61), the Bulldogs still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Braddock saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Liano Lacayo went 6 for 8 on his way to 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lacayo has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ray Estay, who went 5 of 10 en route to 14 points and seven assists.

Meanwhile, Varela came up short against Coral Park on Thursday and fell 59-50. The defeat continues a trend for the Vipers in their matchups with the Rams: they've now lost three in a row.

Varela's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Braddock, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-13.

Braddock came out on top in a nail-biter against Varela in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, sneaking past 60-58. Does Braddock have another victory up their sleeve, or will Varela turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
