Baseball Recap: Lamar Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

Lamar won the last time they faced Burlington and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Thunder walked away with a 6-1 win over the Cougars. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Thunder.

Alex Williams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cael Buxton was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Lamar is undefeated when Buxton posts two or more runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Axton Morales was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Lamar pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.3 runs. As for Burlington, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.

Coming up, Lamar will head out on the road to square off against Salida at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Thunder's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Burlington, they will host Stratton at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
