Flag Football Game Preview: St. Mary's Knights vs. Mesquite Wildcats + Official Tickets

The St. Mary's Knights will head out to square off against the Mesquite Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Mary's offense hasn't had much luck over their past three games, but Wednesday's contest will give them a chance to turn things around.

On Thursday, St. Mary's didn't have quite enough to beat ALA - Queen Creek and fell 6-3.

Meanwhile, Mesquite had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40.5 points) and they went ahead and made it five last Monday. They blew past the Padres 56-0. Give the Wildcats' defense some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

Mesquite found their leader in freshman Alexa Montoya, who threw for 274 yards and six TDs while completing 78.9% of her passes, and also rushed for 54 yards and one score on only six carries. Montoya has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last four times she's played.

Mesquite didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jensen Cowart.

Mesquite's victory bumped their record up to 13-1. As for St. Mary's, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.

St. Mary's was able to grind out a solid win over Mesquite in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, winning 28-21. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
