Softball Recap: Lacey Township Extends Home Winning Streak to Three

Lacey Township took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Brick Memorial, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Lions' pitcher stepped up to hand the Mustangs a 1-0 shutout on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

The result came thanks to Bella Byk's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nicole Scheper, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Madison Feldman also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Lacey Township pushed their record up to 6-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Brick Memorial, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.

Looking ahead, Lacey Township will be playing at home against Manchester Township at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Brick Memorial, they will venture away from home to take on Toms River South at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.19 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
