Softball Recap: Russell Comes Up Short

Russell had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 1-6 to make it seven. They fell just short of the Larned Indians by a score of 12-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Broncos have suffered since April 11, 2025.

As for Larned, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-12. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games.

For Larned's part, Gillian Smith was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with four RBI. Those four hits gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brooke Simmons, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

While Russell had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
