The Centennial Golden Hawks are taking a road trip to challenge the Stockdale Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Centennial will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Centennial gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They had just enough and edged out Liberty 8-7.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Stockdale). They put the hurt on Ridgeview with a sharp 13-1 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Owen Hill was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Gabriel Borja looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 11 consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Charlie Ryder was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Cooper Eberly, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Stockdale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
Stockdale has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Centennial, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-4.
Centennial beat Stockdale 4-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Hawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
