Meanwhile, Oldham County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Spencer County.
Logan Slechter was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. What's more, he gave up only three walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.
On the hitting side, Oldham County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Martin, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. The Colonels are 2-1 when Martin posts one or more home runs, but 5-10-1 otherwise.
Oldham County's loss dropped their record down to 7-11-1. As for Carroll County, their win bumped their record up to 6-4.
Oldham County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Carroll County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317.
