Football Recap: Chatham Central Comes Up Short Despite Gavin Williams' Big Defensive Game + How To Watch

Chatham Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They took a 20-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy Phoenix.

When it comes to explaining why Chatham Central lost, don't look at Carson Jackson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 63 yards and one score on only seven carries.

Even if they lost, Chatham Central's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. In that department, Gavin Williams was the leader with two.

Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy found their leader in freshman Jamari Wilson, who rushed for 180 yards and one touchdown while picking up 9.0 yards per carry, and also threw for 230 yards and one TD while picking up 11.5 yards per attempt. Wilson also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making four total tackles and defending two passes in addition to snagging an interception. Tim Smith was in the mix too, providing Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy with one score.

Chatham Central's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-8.

While Chatham Central had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th.
