Recap: Butler Bulldogs vs. Sun Valley Spartans
The Butler Bulldogs entered their tilt with the Sun Valley Spartans with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Butler took down Sun Valley 71-53 on Tuesday. Given Butler's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while Sun Valley is ranked 394th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Butler to victory were DeQuadre Currence and Tyler Showalter. Currence scored 15 points along with eight assists and six rebounds, while Showalter scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Currence has scored all season. Terrance Badio was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Sun Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kaleel Benjamin, who scored 11 points along with four steals and four blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Jeffery, who scored nine points.
Butler has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. As for Sun Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-11.
Butler will head out on the road to face off against Independence at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Independence will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Sun Valley will take on Marvin Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Marvin Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
