Baseball Recap: Cardinal Gibbons Beats Somerset Academy for Their Fourth Straight Win

Cardinal Gibbons proved they can win big last Monday (they won by 11) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Somerset Academy Panthers 4-3. The win was nothing new for the Chiefs as they're now sitting on four straight.

Cardinal Gibbons got a great performance from Mike Ragusa as he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Ragusa has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Bryce Faison, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Eddie Marshall was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

Cardinal Gibbons' victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Somerset Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cardinal Gibbons will venture away from home to challenge Cardinal Newman at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Somerset Academy, they are taking a road trip to take on Florida Christian at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday.
