Basketball Game Preview: Millbrook Pioneers vs. James Wood Colonels

Millbrook has gone 9-1 against James Wood recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Millbrook Pioneers are taking a road trip to square off against the James Wood Colonels at 7:30 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Millbrook ended up a good deal behind Skyline and lost 64-49. The Pioneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Millbrook might have lost, but man, Jane Moreland was a machine: she dropped a double-double on 31 points and 18 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Moreland a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaliah Jackson, who posted seven points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, Millbrook smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for James Wood, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 44-24 margin over Warren County on Thursday. The Colonels have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 20 points or more this season.

Millbrook better keep an eye on Josie Russell. She was instrumental in James Wood's win, going 8 of 13 on her way to 20 points. Russell's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

James Wood pushed their record up to 12-7 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.5 points per game. As for Millbrook, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.

Millbrook was able to grind out a solid win over James Wood in their previous matchup back in January, winning 51-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for Millbrook since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
