Baseball Game Preview: Morgan City Tigers vs. Berwick Panthers

Morgan City hasn't had much luck against Berwick recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Tigers will face off against the Panthers at 12:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

As a matter of fact, Morgan City put up the most runs they have all season on Friday. They blew past Highland Baptist Christian 13-1. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won three in a row.

Bryce Solar was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Landon Aucoin, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Kade Allen also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

20 must be Berwick's lucky number: they beat Donaldsonville with that score not once but twice on Thursday. The Panthers didn't even let the Tigers on the board, marking the Panthers' second-straight 20-0 shutout. The win was familiar territory for the Panthers, who have now won six matches in a row.

Berwick pushed their record up to 15-11 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Morgan City, their record is now 9-22.

Morgan City might still be hurting after the 13-2 loss they got from Berwick in their previous meeting back in February. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
