Basketball Recap: Lucas Ballard's Big Game Can't Quite Lead South Decatur over Oldenburg Academy

South Decatur was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 63-52 to the Oldenburg Academy Twisters. If the Cougars were looking for revenge after losing 62-54 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

South Decatur's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lucas Ballard, who went 5-for-8 on his way to 18 points. Ballard continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Drake Scaggs, who went 5-for-12 en route to 14 points and six boards.

South Decatur's defeat dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Oldenburg Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.

Looking ahead, South Decatur will look to defend their home court on Friday against Batesville at 7:30 p.m. Batesville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.8 points per game this season. As for Oldenburg Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-48 victory against Shawe Memorial on the 19th.
