Football Recap: Centennial Comes Up Short

Centennial was the 56-15 winner over Garces Memorial when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Golden Hawks fell 16-7 to the Rams on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Golden Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 374th, while the Rams are ranked 146th).

The critical scores for Garces Memorial came from Treson Wallace and Mark Gomez.

This is the second loss in a row for Centennial and nudges their season record down to 1-5. As for Garces Memorial, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Centennial will venture away from home to challenge Bakersfield at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Hawks will need to watch out since the Drillers have now posted at least 31 points in their last five games. As for Garces Memorial, they will head out to square off against Stockdale at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rams will be up against the Mustangs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 40.33 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
