Preview: Emery Spartans vs. Delta Rabbits
Emery is 8-1 against Delta since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Emery Spartans will be home for the holidays to greet the Delta Rabbits at 7:00 p.m. Emery will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Last Friday, Emery faced Juab in a battle between two of the state's top teams. It was close, but Emery ultimately received the gift of a 56-54 victory from a begrudging Spartanssquad.
Emery got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Wade Stilson out in front who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. The match was Stilson's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zack Tuttle, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Delta pushed their score all the way to 66 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 72-66 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hurricane. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Thursday (56), Delta still had to take the loss.
Emery's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points per game. As for Delta, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Emery strolled past Delta in their previous matchup back in February of 2021 by a score of 64-50. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Delta's Austin Topham, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds.
