Softball Recap: Avon Park Comes Up Short

Avon Park managed to slip by Fort Meade the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Avon Park Red Devils came up short against the Fort Meade Miners on Thursday, falling 18-8. That makes it the first time this season the Red Devils have let down their home crowd.

Kamya Brassell led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Henderson, who scored a run and stole Four bases. while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Avon Park always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .517 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Avon Park's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Fort Meade, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avon Park will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Lake Placid at 7:30 p.m. on March 18th. As for Fort Meade, they will welcome Lakeland Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
