Marcellus entered their tilt with Hackett Catholic Prep on Tuesday with ten consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 11. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the Fighting Irish.

Elin Essex made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Those 15 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Aubree Kruger was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Ava Lamoreaux, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Marcellus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hackett Catholic Prep only posted an OBP of .281.

Marcellus' victory bumped their record up to 18-9. As for Hackett Catholic Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10.

Looking ahead, Marcellus will be playing at home against Howardsville Christian at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.42 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hackett Catholic Prep, they will take on Climax-Scotts at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Fighting Irish's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
