Baseball Recap: Curie Takes a Loss

Curie extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-5 in the process. They came up short against the St. Rita Mustangs, falling 19-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Condors were not able to get on the board.

As for St. Rita, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-10. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For St. Rita's part, Sullivan Kazee made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Kazee also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because St. Rita is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 4-9 otherwise. Kazee was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Nick Cegielski looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Gavin Wilczewski was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Angel Castro was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Looking ahead, Curie will head out to face off against Goode STEM Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Rita, they will welcome Bogan at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The Bengals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.88 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
