Basketball Recap: Athens Takes a Loss

Athens easily dispatched Midwest Central last Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Athens Warriors fell just short of the New Berlin Pretzels by a score of 42-40 on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Warriors of the 40-39 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Athens still got an impressive performance from James Jones, who posted 12 points and eight boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Sawyer Hill, who had seven points.

Athens' defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for New Berlin, they now have a winning record of 9-8.

Athens wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 53-45 loss against PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central on the 28th. New Berlin has also already played their next game, a 33-30 defeat against Pleasant Plains on the 28th.
