Basketball Recap: Adam Sanchez Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Baldwin Park

After losing to Baldwin Park the last time they met, Azusa decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Azusa Aztecs secured a 39-35 W over the Baldwin Park Braves on Thursday.

Azusa got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Adam Sanchez out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Sanchez a new career-high in blocks (seven). Another player making a difference was Kevin Mijares, who went 6 for 7 on his way to 12 points and five boards.

Azusa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Several Braves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Eric Avila, who posted 20 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rafael Godinez, who had five points along with eight steals and seven rebounds.

Azusa has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. As for Baldwin Park, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season.

Azusa will be playing in front of their home fans against Sierra Vista at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sierra Vista will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Azusa surely won't give up without a fight. As for Baldwin Park, they will head out on the road to square off against Garey at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Baldwin Park is facing Garey at the right time seeing as Garey is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
